Greg says,
“My glass work is created through a process known as flame working. This branch of the glass family tree involves manipulating glass tubes and rods in front of an oxygen and propane torch at temperatures exceeding 4000°. My shapes and patterns are created freehand in front of the flame, through heat, gravity, and tooling. Melting glass in the flame is an intense experience that requires patience, balance and rhythm. The reward for practice is an understanding of a material that has limitless possibilities of form, color and pattern. My inspiration comes from the natural world that surrounds us and our brief time in it. Fragility expressed in a timeless material.”
Greg has been happily creating glass art since 1998, when he was introduced to the craft while living in Boulder, Colorado. Known for his intricate and colorful bead designs, Greg has traveled across the United States and Canada giving flame working demonstrations, teaching the craft, and showing his work. Part of his joy comes from sharing the world of glass with others; from demonstrations on the street, to working with students in schools. Greg had the pleasure of teaching several workshops at the Montreal School of glass, Espace Verre. He has also taught at the Bemis School of Art at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and is currently teaching a regular series of flamework classes at the Coastal Arts Center in Orange Beach, Alabama. His work has been collected and sold in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan.
