How it works

At Sands of Time, we permanently encase a small portion of your loved one’s or pet’s ashes inside the glass memorials of your choosing.

Select your memorials and place your order.

Start with our designs, then customize your memorial with colors of your choosing, your size, and engraving options.

Send the ashes to the artist.

We provide simple mailing instructions. Most artists use roughly ¼ tsp of ashes per item. Please send only the amount requested.

We create your memorial and ship it back to you with tracking.

Orders are handcrafted by individual artists. Timelines vary by artist, with most memorials completed in approximately 4 to 6 weeks.

Who We Are

Sands of Time was founded in 2011 in my small home studio in Kansas City, Missouri. What began as a simple glass studio grew into something far more meaningful. It became a way to help families hold onto the people they love through art they can hold.

I still live here in Kansas City with my wife and our children, and we continue to run this business from the same place where it all started. Every memorial we create represents a real person, a real family, and a responsibility I take personally.

When a family chooses us, they are placing deep trust in our hands. That trust means everything to me.

How much ash is required?

Our artists typically use ¼ to ½ teaspoon per item, and each product listing shows the exact amount needed for that specific piece.

How long does it take to complete an order?

Where do I send the ashes?

Each artist works from their own studio, so the shipping address depends on the item you choose. You can find the your artists shipping address on the product listing under “Where to Send the Ashes.”

How do I send the ashes?

Here is the simple, safe way to send ashes for your order:

Place the required amount of ashes in two tightly sealed Ziplock bags.
Clearly write your name and telephone number on the bag using permanent marker, or place a small card with your name and phone number inside the bag.
Use the USPS Small Cremated Remains Shipping Kit, these kits are free and can be ordered online. Order the free USPS kit →
The USPS requires cremated remains be shipped using Priority Mail Express. Pack the bagged ashes securely inside the kit following the included instructions.
Bring the package to the post office counter, please do not place it in a drop box.
Keep your receipt and tracking number. Our artists will also send tracking when your memorial is shipped from their studio.
