Ship by Priority Mail Express.

Bring the package to the post office counter and send it by Priority Mail Express, as required by USPS. Please do not place cremated remains in a drop box. Be sure to keep your USPS receipt and tracking number until the ashes arrive safely at the artist’s studio.

Helpful tip: Make sure the name on the package matches the name used to place the order. This helps your artist quickly match the ashes with the correct order when they arrive at the studio.

Common Questions About Cremation Jewelry

Clear answers about how cremation jewelry works, how ashes are incorporated, what can be included, and what to expect from different materials and designs.

What is cremation jewelry, and how are ashes incorporated into it?

Cremation jewelry is wearable memorial jewelry created to hold or incorporate a small portion of cremated remains. Depending on the design, the ashes may be permanently encased in glass, resin, stone inlay, or another material, or placed inside a small fillable chamber.

At Sands of Time, each product listing explains how the ashes are incorporated so you can choose a memorial that feels right for you.

What is the difference between infused cremation jewelry and fillable urn jewelry?

Infused cremation jewelry has the ashes permanently incorporated into the design during the artist’s creation process. Fillable urn jewelry contains a small hollow chamber where a portion of ashes can be placed and sealed.

Glass cremation jewelry is infused with the ashes you send to the artist. Fillable cremation pendants and necklaces are sent to you so you can add the ashes at home. The product listing will explain the process for each design.

How much ash is needed for cremation jewelry?

Most cremation jewelry requires only a small amount of ash, commonly about ¼ teaspoon per piece, which is roughly the size of a dime.

At Sands of Time, the exact amount is listed on each product page because requirements can vary by artist and design. Please send only the amount requested for your item.

Can cremation jewelry be made with human or pet ashes?

Yes. Cremation jewelry can be made with either human or pet cremated remains. The same small amount of ash is generally used, although the exact requirement depends on the artist and design.

At Sands of Time, any cremation jewelry design on our website can be created with either human or pet ashes.

Can more than one person’s or pet’s ashes be included in one piece?

Yes. Multiple sets of ashes can be incorporated together in one piece of cremation jewelry.

At Sands of Time, you may send the ashes pre-mixed in one bag or place each set in a separate labeled bag. If they are sent separately, include a clear note explaining that you would like them combined in the same memorial.

How do artists keep ashes from different orders from getting mixed up?

Reputable cremation jewelry artists handle each order separately and use careful labeling and order-tracking procedures to prevent one family’s ashes from being confused with another order.

At Sands of Time, the ashes are sent directly to the individual artist creating your memorial. Make sure the name on the package matches the name used to place the order so the artist can quickly match the ashes with the correct customer record.

Can you see the ashes in cremation jewelry?

Yes. In glass cremation jewelry infused with ashes, the ashes are visible within the finished piece. They generally appear as a soft, snowy white pattern woven throughout the artwork. Their placement depends on the design and where they are encased within the piece.

The exact appearance depends on the natural color of the cremated remains. Darker ashes may remain darker in the finished piece. Fillable urn jewelry is different because the ashes are placed inside a hidden chamber and are not visible from the outside.

Can cremation jewelry be worn every day?

Yes. Sands of Time cremation jewelry is designed to be worn and enjoyed as meaningful everyday jewelry.

Care depends on the material and setting. Sterling silver and gold elements may need occasional polishing to restore their shine, while glass can be gently cleaned with a soft microfiber cloth. Remove your jewelry before activities that may expose it to impact or harsh household chemicals, and review the product listing for any material-specific care guidance.
