About Sands of Time

Honoring lives with reverence and craftsmanship.

Sands of Time began in 2011 as a one-person studio in Kansas City. Today, we’re a curated collective of 21 memorial artists across the U.S., each creating handcrafted memorials with care, skill, and intention.

Inside the collective

Who we are

Sands of Time is a curated, in-house collective of memorial artists. Every artist you see here is part of the Sands of Time collective. No outside shops, no unknown makers. We work across many materials and mediums and are united by one standard: treat every order with the care we would want for our own family.

Our artists live and work coast to coast. That means your memorial is created in the artist’s own studio, by the person whose name is on the listing, not outsourced, not mass-produced.

Inclusivity matters here

Our collective includes artists with diverse backgrounds, beliefs, cultures, and traditions. We serve all families. What we share is compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the craftsmanship memorial art deserves.

Sands of Time: Origin Story

Chris with Sam and Eloise, a family moment that reflects the heart behind Sands of Time
What started as one request became my life’s work—built around care, craftsmanship, and the families we serve.

Sands of Time started in 2011 when a friend asked if I could incorporate a small amount of ashes into a pendant for her. At the time, I had never heard of it being done and wasn't sure it was possible. When I received the ashes, it took me some time; experimenting with different methods of infusing the ashes. Once my friend received the finished pendant, the feedback I received was overwhelming. It became clear that this was more than just another project. It was the beginning of a new calling. And so, I decided to make it my life’s work.

For the next several years, I created each memorial by hand from my home studio in Kansas City. As more families discovered my work, I outgrew my single studio, welcoming additional memorial artists to our team.

Today, Sands of Time is a collective of glassblowers and cremation artists from across the country creating meaningful memorials for families looking for a unique way to remember.

Where it all began

A short look back at the early days.

Our Kansas City showroom era

For a season, we had a storefront where families could visit in person, see memorials up close, and talk through options face to face. While we no longer operate a physical retail location, that chapter helped shape how we support families online today.
