How do I know where to send the ashes for my order?

When looking over the items on our site, each item description states which artist makes that particular item. All ashes must be sent directly to the artist’s studio. Please DO NOT send ashes to our main office in Kansas City. If you are unsure of which artist is making your items, please review the listing for the items in your cart. You may also call or email us to confirm. Our artists shipping addresses can be found on their calling card at the bottom of this page. (Keep scrolling) 👇

How much of the ashes are required to create something?

For most orders, we only require a single tbsp. of the ashes (total) to make between 7-10 different pieces. Our rings and pendants utilize roughly 1/4 tsp. per item, while our paperweights and suncatchers each use around 1/2 tsp. When ordering from multiple artists, please send 1 tbsp. of ashes to each corresponding artist. This is to ensure each artist has enough ashes to extract the usable material.

How long does it take to complete an order?

Please review your artists calling card at the bottom of this page for shipping information and turnaround times.

How do I properly mail cremated remains via USPS?

  1. The package is sent via Priority Mail Express.
  2. The identity of the contents “Cremated Remains” should be marked on the address side of the parcel.
  3. Ashes should be mailed in double (2) zip-lock bags. This ensures that the remains won’t escape from their containers and cause damage, discomfort, destruction, or soiling.
  4. Please clearly write your full name (not the name of the deceased) and telephone number on the actual zip-lock bag in permanent marker so our staff can easily identify your package.
  5. Optional: A photograph and letter about your loved one. We would love to know about their life, personality, character etc. Whatever you feel like sharing, we want to hear about it 💙

​Can you use more than one set of ashes to make a single piece?

​Yes, we can use multiple sets of ashes to create individual items. There is no extra charge for this. You may send the ashes premixed or separated. Whichever is easiest for you. Please be sure to include a note in your package so our artists are clear on how to create your items.

​What will happen to the unused portion of the ashes?

​​Our artists are instructed to hold the ashes for 90 days before scattering them locally. This gives you time to decide if you’d like to have additional items made or have the unused ashes returned. We’re committed to handling your loved one’s ashes with the utmost care and respect throughout the entire process. The US Post Office requires cremated remains be sent Priority Express Mail. Yes! When shipping our memorials internationally, the cost is generally between $15 – $35 USD depending on weight and destination. Due to the custom and intimate nature of our Cremation Memorials, we are unable to accept returns. In the rare event that you are discontent with your order, please let us know and we will do our best to alleviate the issue. Due to the nature of the glassmaking process, exact size, shape and color cannot be guaranteed. Sands of Time is not responsible for items lost or damaged during transit.

Cancellation Policy

We offer full refunds if an order is canceled within 24 hrs.
If an order is canceled within 7 days of the order date, there is a 20% cancellation fee.
If an order is canceled after 7 days, the following options are available:

  1. We can create the items you ordered without using the ashes.
  2. We can email you a digital gift card for the full amount paid. This can be used towards any future order placed on our website.
  3. We can put your order on hold indefinitely. Whether it’s 2 weeks or 2 years, we’re ready to fulfill your order.
  4. Pay it Forward! We will offer your memorials to a destitute family suffering the loss of a loved one at no cost to them.

All orders are made in the order in which they are received. When ordering from multiple artists, your packages will arrive individually from each artist. Please try to order your Christmas gifts as early as possible to ensure they arrive on time for the holiday. Christmas orders cannot be rushed. Custom artwork may require an extended waiting period. We completely understand the emotional difficulty of handling your loved one’s ashes. However, in rare cases some folks have waited over a year before sending their packaged cremains. If we do not receive your package within 4 weeks of receiving the order, your order will be moved to the back of the line so we may continue moving forward with current orders. 30-Day Return Policy

We want you to feel confident in your purchase.

Non-personalized items may be returned within 30 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original condition. To initiate a return, please contact us and we will provide instructions along with a prepaid return label.

Once the item is received and inspected, refunds are processed within 7 business days to the original method of payment.

Because the majority of our memorials are custom-made using cremation ashes, personalized memorial pieces are final sale unless there is a defect or breakage related to craftsmanship (see Breakage Protection below).


30-Day Breakage Protection Guarantee

Sands of Time offers a 30-day Breakage Protection Guarantee to address rare instances where a memorial experiences cracking or breakage related to the glass itself.

If your memorial arrives and, upon careful unpacking, you notice:

  • A chip

  • A crack

  • Or other structural breakage in the glass

Please contact us within 30 days of delivery and include clear photographs of the issue. In these cases, we will assess the piece and, when appropriate, offer a repair or remake at no additional cost.

This guarantee applies to issues related to the glass or craftsmanship and is intended as an added layer of care and reassurance.


Shipping Damage & Carrier Responsibility

We take great care in packaging all memorials securely. If your package arrives with visible external damage, please document the condition immediately and contact us. We will assist you in filing a carrier claim when appropriate.


What Is Not Covered

Returns or remakes do not apply to:

  • Artistic variations in color, size, or shape

  • Natural differences inherent to handmade glass

  • Normal wear over time

  • Intentional misuse

Each memorial is handmade, and subtle variation is a natural part of the process.
