How Cremation Jewelry Works

A simple, respectful overview of what happens, what’s needed, and what to expect.

1

Choose a piece that feels right.

Select a ring or pendant that fits how you want to carry them — close to the heart, or worn daily on the hand. Each listing explains materials, sizing, timelines, and the artist’s process.

2

Set aside a small portion of ashes.

Most pendants and rings use about ¼ teaspoon per item — roughly the size of a dime. Your product listing will always tell you exactly what’s required.

Preparing ashes securely for mailing

Only a small amount is needed for most orders.

3

Handmade and shipped with tracking.

Your memorial is handcrafted by an individual artist and shipped back to you with tracking. Most jewelry orders are completed in about 4 to 6 weeks (artist timelines vary).

Show a quick packing checklist
  • Ashes should be packaged in two tightly sealed Ziplock bags, labeled with your name and telephone number (not the name of the deceased).
  • Make sure the name on your shipment matches the name used when placing the order, so the artist can easily identify your package.
  • Use the address shown on the product listing under “Where to Send the Ashes.”
  • Bring your package to the USPS counter and keep your receipt and tracking.
Where do I send the ashes for my order?
Each artist works from their own studio, so the shipping address depends on the item you choose. You will find the exact address on the product listing or on the Artists page under “Where to Send the Ashes.”
How much of the ashes are required?
Each product description specifies exactly how much ash is required to create that item. Generally speaking, our jewelry and keepsakes use around ¼ teaspoon of ash per item. Paperweights typically use around ½ teaspoon, while our extra-large suncatchers need around 1 teaspoon at most. For reference, ¼ teaspoon of ash is roughly the size of a dime.

Please send only the amount of ash requested for each item. This ensures that our artists can create your piece without excess ash going unused or needing to be scattered. Keep in mind, we carefully select and use only the finest portions of the ashes to honor your loved one.
How long does it take to complete an order?
Orders typically take 4 to 6 weeks to complete. Please visit our Artists page to view their current timelines. Tracking information will be sent to you once your items ship from the artist’s studio.
How do I mail cremated remains?

Can I use more than one set of ashes in a single piece?
Yes, we can blend multiple sets of ashes into one item at no extra charge. You may send them pre-mixed or separated, but please be sure to include a note with clear instructions.
What happens to the unused portion of ashes?
All unused cremains are held for 90 days. This gives you time to decide if you'd like to have additional items made or have the unused ashes returned. If we do not hear from you within 90 days, the remaining ashes will be scattered locally with care and reverence. Scattering sites will vary depending on our location.

What happens if my glass memorial breaks?
Please know that the ashes are permanently fused inside the glass during the creation process. They are not loose, hollow, or suspended in liquid. In the rare event that a piece is damaged, the ashes remain bonded within the glass itself and do not spill out separately.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. International shipping rates will vary depending on the destination. Please select the international shipping option at checkout. Once your order is ready, we'll email you a separate invoice for the exact shipping cost. Have questions about international shipping? Contact us: chris@cremationartglass.com.
